ARTS
Southwest Christian Academy is committed to partnering with parents to help students realize their God-given potential whether it be academic, athletic or artistic talent. With this in mind we have structured our Performing Arts Department to grow our students abilities beyond collegiate entry-level. We want our students to qualify for and achieve music and drama scholarships because of the preparation they have received at SCA. Of course, it takes dedication by the student.

Students learn to read music and sing 3 and 4 part harmonies using both traditional and modern choral works. A one-on-one audition with the choir director is required to participate, however only basic singing ability is required. Same-year participation in SCA Singers is required for anyone who plans to participate in any other musical ensemble. A annual $40 book/supply fee is required.
An elective course which is open to up to 20 students grades 7-12. In Drama students will learn the skills of acting and stagecraft. A one-on-one audition with the drama teacher is required to participate, however only basic acting ability is required. Because of the limit of 20 students, enrollment preference is given to students who are in the SCA Players and Jr. Praise Team. Same-year participation in drama is required for anyone who plans to participate in The SCA Players. An annual $40 book/supply fee is required.
Open only to young women grades 7-12, will consist of 9-12 members, and will perform especially challenging music written for women. Some rehearsal time will be during the normal choir period, however the majority of the preparation required must be done on the students own time with rehearsal CDs and sheet music. There will be occasional after school rehearsals, but we will coordinate these rehearsals around athletics. Students will NOT be expected to choose between athletics and participation in the Women’s Chorus.
Is made up of young men and women grades 7-12. Only the very best of those who audition are selected for this group. This ensemble represents SCA at outside events, will participate in vocal competitions and will travel and perform locally. To qualify for this ensemble a student must be currently enrolled in Choir, women must be in the Women’s Chorus, and all members must commit to take a free 30 minute weekly individual voice lesson at school. Students will NOT be expected to choose between athletics and participation in Competition Choir.
A musical ensemble of young men and women grades 7-12 who display remarkable Christian character and can be trusted as role models for the rest of our students. This group of singers and instrumentalists must be
auditioned by the Praise & Worship Team director. Rehearsals begin during the summer to prepare for the new school year. Regular rehearsals are first period and after school once each week.
Open to young men and women grades 7-12 who display remarkable Christian character and can be trusted as role models for our younger students. The 5-15 members of this team lead worship and perform skits for the preschool and elementary students during their chapel services. Rehearsals are all
during school hours. To qualify for this ensemble a student must be currently enrolled in Choir or Drama.
